Malachy Murray

Founder · Game Designer · Historical Researcher

Malachy Murray is a New York–born creator, genealogical researcher and game designer best known as the creator of Overlords & Outlaws™, a historical collectible trading card game built from real dynastic bloodlines.

Background

Murray grew up in New York City, where early exposure to political, social, and institutional power systems shaped his long-term interest in authority, inheritance and structural influence.

He later served in the United States Navy in amphibious warfare units, with deployments associated with Cold War–era operations including Grenada and Beirut, Lebanon. His service provided firsthand experience with modern command structures, operational discipline and the consequences of leadership under pressure.

Following his honorable discharge, Murray returned to New York and became active in the city’s political environment through local political clubs and community organizations, gaining practical insight into how influence and decision-making function within civic systems.

Professional Experience

Murray has worked in private security and fugitive recovery, fields that emphasize investigative research, behavioral analysis and persistence. These roles reinforced his focus on human psychology as a driving force behind institutional success or failure.

In parallel, he has trained extensively in combat disciplines. Murray boxed competitively during his naval service and continues to train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, where he currently holds a purple belt. These disciplines inform his strategic approach to design, emphasizing leverage, restraint, timing and positional advantage over raw force.

He also studied acting at Columbia University, later working in television and film. This training refined his ability to communicate complex narratives, inhabit diverse perspectives and present historical material in accessible, engaging forms.

For over two decades, Murray worked professionally in New York Harbor and became one of the city’s most respected tour guides, including a long tenure with the Circle Line. Guiding millions of visitors through New York’s geography and history, he developed a reputation for clarity, accuracy and authoritative storytelling.

Historical Research

Throughout his career, Murray has maintained a focus on genealogical research and dynastic history. His work includes the reconstruction of verified European royal bloodlines and the development of structured frameworks for mapping historical succession systems.

This research ultimately led to the documentation of a lineage connection to the Emperor Charlemagne. Rather than treating the discovery as novelty, Murray approached it as a structural case study in how inheritance, legitimacy and myth shape civilizations over time.

Overlords & Outlaws

Murray is the architect of the Sanguinis Caerulei (“Blue Blood Dynasty”) framework — a genealogical taxonomy that organizes thousands of verified royal figures into playable dynastic roles such as Founder, Lawgiver, Warlord, Conqueror and Unifier.

This system forms the foundation of Overlords & Outlaws, a collectible trading card game that transforms historical bloodlines into a competitive strategic engine. The project is designed as a transmedia framework capable of expanding into tabletop, digital, and narrative formats while preserving historical authenticity.
